![]() I cannot tell if this one lane is driven from the northbridge (PCIe 2.0) or southbridge (PCIe 1.0). There's "x8/x8" mode (which takes 8 lanes from the second x16 slot) and "x16/x1" mode, which give one lane of bandwidth to the slot. This would normally be easy to tell, but the motherboard has two settings in the BIOS for this slot. I only have a mechanical USB 3.0 hard drive so the drive never fully saturates the bus and I cannot see a bottleneck that way. ![]() Is there some way I can tell the PCIe specification of the slot?. I know that if the slot is connected to the X58 northbridge then it is PCIe 2.0, but if it is connected to the ICH10R southbridge it is PCIe 1.0. I know that the card needs PCIe 2.0 to get true USB 3.0 speeds, but I cannot tell if the slot supports PCIe 2.0. I have a VLI USB 3.0 PCIe x1 card in my P6X58D Premium motherboard's bottom slot (white x16 length, see picture of board below). Maybe someone else can help me with this conundrum.
